A Message from Our Principal

Dear Students, Parents, and Families,

Welcome back to school! On behalf of the staff at Stevens Intermediate School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education.

We will use a Positive Behavior Intervention Program at SIS. Students can be successful within the school environment when the school is safe and inviting. By creating an atmosphere where students can focus on learning, we can help to ensure academic, social, and emotional growth. To do this, we use a clear behavior matrix with student expectations in the student handbook. We will also enforce consequences for misconduct and behavior issues.

All staff members will promote positive student behavior by teaching and reinforcing the positive behavior expectations throughout the building. The SIS Positive Behavior Intervention Program includes four expectations:

  • Respect yourself
  • Respect others
  • Respect property
  • Be there/be ready

Please take time to read the student/parent handbook. The SIS behavior matrix is in the handbook. If you have any questions regarding the handbook or behavior matrix, feel free to contact me.

Parent cooperation is of great importance in the areas of regular school attendance and completion of assignments. School begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Tardy students miss important news and curriculum. The partnership agreement will provide us and the student with visible proof that school and home are united for excellence. Please sign the agreement and return it to the classroom teacher.

Safety and security of students is of the utmost importance to the staff of SIS. When coming to the school for any reason, please ring the front door buzzer, and clearly state your name and reason for the visit. Upon entrance, proceed directly to the school office. You will need to have a government issued photo ID available to be scanned and retained during the duration of your visit.

IL Central is our school bus provider. You can reach them at (815) 476-6300 with questions pertaining to routes, pick up/drop off sites, or other bus information.

Together we can and will have a great school year! We seek parent involvement and look forward to your support. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at (815) 926-1689.
